Building a testing framework on OSS: when a batch file is not good enough and a testing framework is not quite the right fit

Why: I needed to create log file names with unique timestamps using a plain batch file. As it turned out, the best Windows-batch-file solution is locale dependent. So the best alternative solution I found was date.exe from UnxUtils (see below). Along came a bunch of other useful software, which is good to know about.
